A Brief History of the Riverboat Discovery

The Binkley family’s steamboating tradition spans over 100 years and five generations. In 1898, Charles M. Binkley hiked over the Chilkoot Pass with other stampeders. While his fellow travelers sought gold, Charles set his sights on building and operating boats along the Yukon River and its tributaries. His son, Captain Jim Binkley Sr., followed in his footsteps, piloting freight vessels on the Yukon and Tanana Rivers during the 1940s.
